Multi day tours           

Our short tours are organised in a unique and flexible way  for those who really want to get the heart of Cambodia.

We make time to enjoy the sights at a relaxed pace and make unscheduled stops to get that unique experience of local life which would otherwise be missed.

Rural Cambodia is full of opportunities to meet people and they are usually willing to have their photos taken,

The temples are spectacular; but seeing the countryside and meeting the people with a small groups like ours; make a trip to Cambodia an enriching and rewarding experience!

Koh Ker   Preah Vihear    Prek Toal  Mekong and dolphins  Banteay Chhmar  Preah Khan

Koh Ker Explorer  A photographically rewarding mini tour combines Beng Mealea, Banteay Srey; Kbal Spean and Koh Ker as a unique tour.

Day 1 We start off early to the small Hindu Temple of Banteay Srey. It has fabulous carvings and is best seen from 7:30 to 9:00 before the big tour groups start arriving. We have time for a coffee or snack before continuing our tour.

We have  a short drive along the south of Koulen mountain to Kbal Spean and the 1000  Linga River. It is a steep climb through beautiful jungle to the upper river. The lingas on the riverbed were carved nearly 1000 years ago are unique in the world.

The waters from the spring which feeds the Siem Reap River, wash over the lingas and cascade down to a lovely waterfall. Ancient carvings of Hindu deities and animals dress the stones and hundreds of brightly coloured butterflies complete the scene. 

We have a late lunch at a beautiful semi open-air  restaurant with views of the surrounding garden and hills.  We continue to Koh Ker for a sunset visit and back to the village of Srey Yong; where we  stay overnight at a small guest house.

Day 2   We have an early start and most of the morning to see the rest of  ancient city of Koh Ker. There are around 35 major temples spread over an area of 20sq Kms. Most of the temples are of brick, built over 1000 years ago. Some  are in remarkable condition; others are in a picturesque  state of ruin. It is a photographic wonder; especially in the rainy season.

We have lunch at Prasat Thom; then drive to Beng Mealea; where we spend a couple of hours exploring this exciting jungle ruin; which for many is the highlight of their trip to Cambodia

This tour is best done on the last day of your temple pass which is needed for Kbal Spean and  Banteay Srey

BC02  Banteay Chhmar 2 days $ 195*

The vast "Narrow Fortress"  and other sites in area; staying at Sissophon. lots of interest inc Sarus Crane Reserve (in season).  Can be a Spectacular  beginning or end of trip for those travelling overland through Thailand.

Day 1 Drive to Sissophon with option  to visit Ang Trapang Thmor a reservoir which is the breeding  centre for the extremely rare Sarus Crane. (January to May)  We continue to Sissophon with an optional visit to Stone masonry workshops.

Overnight at Hotel in Sissophon

Day 2 Pre Dawn start for drive to Banteay Chhmar.  It is a spectacular sight with its Bayon Style towers, walls and enclosures; which in the rainy season are cloaked with vegetation. Almost every step gives another fabulous picture of man and nature; blending together in a most dramatic way.

In the afternoon we have the option of further exploration of some of the other sites around Banteay Chhmar; returning to Siem Reap Via a northern route (which is uncertain at the time of writing) or going direct to Poipet for onward travel to Bangkok.

PV02-03 Preah Vihear  and Anlong Veng  

Ancient and recent Khmer history in this exciting tour;  visiting the Khmer  Rouge strongholds and the spectacular mountain temple of Preah Vihear.

PV03   Preah Vihear

Day 1 Drive from Siem Reap via Anlong Veng to Preah Vihear. The drive up the mountain is extremely steep with spectacular views . We can enjoy the views of the temple in the evening light as we watch the sun go down. Overnight in basic guest house on the hill near the temple.

Day 2 Sunrise at Preah Vihear and option to walk to the viewpoint across the Thai border.  We return on the steep road down to the valley and continue our journey to  the town of Tbeang Meancheay where we have a stop for lunch,  We continue to Koh Ker  where we see this temple site at it best in the late afternoon.  We stay Overnight at basic guest house in Sray Yong 10kms from Koh Ker.

Day 3 We continue our visit  to Koh Ker. (see KKE02 day 2 above). We have lunch at Prasat Thom; then drive to Beng Mealea; where we spend a couple of hours exploring this exciting jungle ruin; which for many is the highlight of their trip to Cambodia.

PV02   Preah Vihear  

This is a  short version of the PV03 tour visiting Preah Vihear and the Khmer Rouge stronghold Anlong Veng

 

Day 1 Drive from Siem Reap via Anlong Veng with the option to visit the old Khmer Rouge HQ at the house of Tamok (the butcher) and grave of Pol Pot. We continue in the afternoon  to Preah Vihear. As PV03 . We can enjoy the views of the temple in the evening light as we watch the sun go down. Accommodation is in basic Overnight in guest house on the hill near the temple.

Day 2 Sunrise at Preah Vihear and option to walk to the viewpoint across the Thai border.  We return on the steep road down to the valley and return by road to Siem Reap

The route can be via Tbeang Meancheay or Anlong Veng depending on group preferences of road conditions which can be difficult in the wet season.

PT02 Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary   1.5 days   $ 125 to $145

 More than a bird sanctuary; Prek Toal is a total Tonle Sap lake experience!

More than a bird sanctuary; Prek Toal is one of the wonders of South East Asia and a total Tonle Sap lake experience! Prek Toal is a fabulous place for seeing wildlife and birds in the dry season December to  March.

The visitor can also get an experience of the fascinating life of the floating villages as well, by staying overnight in the village.

This allows a dawn start on a Government run boat which has  books to aid identification of the thousands of water birds to be found here.

Day 1 Afternoon boat to Chong Khneas floating village. We continue across the great Tonle Sap Lake to Prek Toal. We  cruise up river in the late afternoon to see floating village life and get a taste of  some of the exotic birds to be found here.   Overnight at the Prek Toal Centre lodgings.

Day 2 Pre-dawn start to see the bird life at its best. The schedule varies through the season. When water levels allow we take a motor boat or canoes right into the heart of the mangroves. This give us access to one of many tree top hides. You can see thousands of storks and other birds nesting in the trees and flying over head. It is

MR03 Mekong River and dolphins

This new tour give an opportunity for those who are keen on wild life to see some of the few remaining  Irrawaddy dolphins on the Mekong River. We have  opportunities in season to see some rare bird species including extremely rare Mekong Wagtail and  the Bengal Florican

 

We do not ignore Temples either as we visit the 7th Century Sambor Pre Kuk (new to our expanding programme) and the hill temple of Santuk near Kompong Thom.

 

Day 1 Drive to Sambor Pre Kuk the ancient temple city that predates Angkor Wat by 700 years. The temples are in jungle location north of Kompong Thom. We continue to the Mekong River town of Kampong Cham.  We can arrange to go the bird Sanctuary near Kompong Thom instead of Sambor Pre Kuk to see the rare Bengal Florican  (from January thru March)   Overnight in hotel.

Day 2 Drive on a new route past rubber plantations to Kratie. After lunch visit the modern Pagoda of 100 columns at Sambor. We return  to Kampi where we take an afternoon boat ride on the Mekong River to see the Irrawaddy dolphins. Overnight in hotel

Day 3 We have second chance to see the dolphins in the morning before the long drive back to Siem Reap with a stop for lunch at Kompong Cham. We have an option of visiting the hill temple of Santuk . It has  over 800 steps; but the modern pagoda and ancient shrines are very interesting and command spectacular views. We take a look at the ancient bridge of Spean Praptos at Kompong Kdei on the way back to Siem Reap.

RT05   Remote Temples inc Preah Vihear & Koh Ker   5 Days    $585

combines most of  KKB02 and PV03 .  Flexible itinerary will vary with season and personal preferences. 

This spectacular tour takes in Anlong Veng, Preah Vihear as the PV03 Preah Vihear 3 days tour above.  We continue to Tbaeng Meanchey Town and the vast and rarely visited temple of Koh Ker. We return to Siem reap via the Jungle temple of Beng Mealea.

Day 1 Drive to Anlong Veng; visit Tamoks house and short hill walk to Pol Pots grave

Day 2 Drive to Preah Vihear village for lunch and  30min drive in 4WD  to Preah Vihear mountain. we see the temple at its best prior to sunset.  Overnight in basic guest house, near temple.

Day 3 Sunrise at Preah Vihear and walk to Thai viewpoint and see the Hindu figures in the cliffs and visit the Thai markets. Drive to Tbaeng Meanchey we stay in good guest house with air conditioning . 

Day 4 Tbaeng Meanchey to Koh Ker visiting the temple in the afternoon. We stay in a basic local guest house in remote village near Koh Ker.

Day 5  We drive Koh Ker  to the spectacular jungle temple of Beng Mealea which we pass on the way to Siem Reap.

RC03 Preah Khan Kompong Svay  3 days  $ 375  

A  4WD jungle adventure to one of the most remote sites in Cambodia. Itinerary can include Sambor Pre  Kuk or  Koh Ker.

This vast temple complex covering 25 square Kms, was the largest (in area) of all the Khmer Temple sites. Contained within earth banks 5 Kms each side with a 3 km long reservoir as part of the site. The size is truly staggering; yet due to difficulty of access, relatively few people outside have ever seen it.

Every tour here is different: this is a typical itinerary:

Day 1 Siem Reap to  Stung  then village roads and jungle trails to Ta Seng;  afternoon at Preah Khan , Prasat Stung and Mebon Temple and the vast central sanctuary covering an area similar in size to Angkor Wat. Overnight in village homestay

Day 2 morning at Ta Seng Village then return via jungle trails to Kompong Thom drive to Santuk for sunset. Overnight in hotel Kompong Thom.

Day 3 to Kompong Thom to Sambor Pre Kuk 7th Century jungle temples drive via Kompong Kdei and the Ancient bridge of Spean Praptos to Siem Reap

This tour involves a long time on poor roads; itinerary can change at short notice and access routes are often blocked

It is currently one of the most difficult of all the big temple sites to get to and can only be visited in the dry season. This special tour is for serious adventures only.

Price  $375 per person for 3 day tour above is subject to change for 2009.
