Ever since Peace of Angkor started in 2003, we have
actively supported charity projects in Cambodia.
We are concentrating assistance in rural areas away from main tourist
centres. Towns like Siem Reap have many organizations acting on behalf
of those in need. Many are NGOs which have large amounts of funding and
overheads which mean that only a percentage of donated cash goes
directly to those in need.
We will not take any fees for the work we do and will do what we can to
ensure that those who benefit from our donations are going to use them
wisely.
Our strategy is to give assistance by guests and personal donations
directly to those who need immediate and long term assistance. We have
no specific brief as we prefer to be flexible in what we do. We have
been involved in:
- Raising money for the Angkor Disabled Association
by concerts at our villa
- Assisting the Pepy Ride on their first charity
ride in 2005 to build a school in a rural area.
- Supplying books and materials at the village
school in the lake village of Kompong Phluk
Currently (March 2008 we are raising money to assist
villagers in Kompong Khleang Village 30 families lost their homes when a
fire raged through some of their wood and thatched stilt houses

At approx 9:15 on 5th March 08 a
fire occurred at the Lake village of Kompong Khleang . The fire
started in a simple wood and thatch house.
It took hold quickly and spread across the
causeway destroying homes on both sides of the road. Villagers
managed to control the fire but as a result 30 families were
made homeless.
Our tour group was toil to avoid the area as the fire was
spreading rapidly across both sides of the road.
Thankfully the wind drew the fire away from
the main part of the village that has over 20,000 people living
in wooden stilt houses.
I have added an image taken from one of
our photo tour clients John Rickaby from Yorkshire England. He
took the image from the upper floor of a house in the southern
part of the village which was unaffected by the fire.

assistance of Red Cross have already started to rebuild simple
dwellings for the families. |
We are
changing or emphasis on direct assistance and prefer to donate locally made
items.
We are
