Koh Ker   Preah Vihear    Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary    Banteay Chhmar  Prasat Bakan

Our Photo  Adventure Tours are organised in a unique and flexible way  for those who really want to get the heart of Cambodia.

We make time to enjoy the sights at a relaxed pace and make unscheduled stops to get that unique experience of local life which would otherwise be missed.

Rural Cambodia is full of opportunities to meet people and they are usually willing to have their photos taken.

The temples are spectacular; but seeing the countryside and meeting the people with a small groups like ours; make a trip to Cambodia an enriching and rewarding experience!

 Preparing for an adventure tour

Our old Pajero in the rough.

Our Landcruiser in action

Our Landcruiser HZ1.

This vehicle is not  a typical  luxury US imported status symbol;  it is set up for serious off road travel, with manual gears; full time 4WD and  proper off road tyres  for the difficult conditions we often experience here!

With the same 4.2 litre 6 cylinder diesel and transmission as the legendary Toyota troop carriers; its just about the toughest  4x4 around.

For your comfort and safety; air conditioning, good supportive seats with seat belts and passenger liability insurance gives security.

KKE02        2 days   $ 185

Koh Ker Explorer  A photographically rewarding 2 day mini tour combines Beng Mealea, Banteay Srey; Kbal Spean and Koh Ker as a spectacular and unique tour.

Day 1 We start off early to the small Hindu Temple of Banteay Srey. It has fabulous carvings and is best seen from 7:30 to 9:00 before the big tour groups start arriving. We have time for a coffee or snack before continuing our tour.

We have  a short drive along the south of Koulen mountain to Kbal Spean and the 1000  Linga River. It is a steep climb through beautiful jungle to the upper river. The lingas on the riverbed were carved nearly 1000 years ago are unique in the world.

The waters from the spring which feeds the Siem Reap River, wash over the lingas and cascade down to a lovely waterfall. Ancient carvings of Hindu deities and animals dress the stones and hundreds of brightly coloured butterflies complete the scene.

We have a late lunch at a beautiful semi open-air  restaurant with views of the surrounding garden and hills. We continue to Koh Ker for an late afternoon visit and see sunset from the Prasat Thom the highest pyramid the Khmers ever built.  We stay overnight at a small village guest house near Koh Ker .

Day 2 We have most of the morning to see this ancient city of Koh Ker. There are around 35 major temples spread over an area of 20sq Kms

Most of the temples are of brick, built over 1000 years ago. Some  are in remarkable condition; others are in a picturesque  state of ruin and cloaked in vegetation.

It is a photographic wonder; especially in the rainy season.

We drive south to Beng Mealea; where we have lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring this exciting jungle ruin; which for many is the highlight of their trip to Cambodia.

*Cost $185  each  : Min No 2 persons on tour. there may be discounts available for groups.

This tour is best done on the last day of your temple pass which is needed for Kbal Spean and  Banteay Srey

PV03 3 days  $ 425

Preah Vihear  and Anlong Veng  Ancient and recent Khmer history in this exciting tour;  visiting the Khmer  Rouge strongholds and the spectacular mountain temple of Preah Vihear.

The spectacular temple of Preah Vihear is set on the edge of  a 1500ft cliff on the Dangrek Mountains on the Thai Border. Until 2003 this was only easily accessible on the Thai Side. A new road was built last October giving 4wd access from Cambodia. This trip is a fascinating journey on dirt roads through the Cambodian jungle. We pass through remote farming communities and visit some of the last strongholds of the Khmer Rouge.

Preah Vihear achieved notoriety as it was the the stage for the final surrender of the Khmer Rouge in 1998. The area is still littered with land mines and shell holes. There is an old field gun still up there as a reminder of the war and the remains of a helicopter which crashed here at the time of the surrender.

New road links have now made access to this area a lot less hard. We drive through jungle and new settlements to the former Pol Pot stronghold of Anlong Veng. We stay overnight here after  visiting the house of Tamok the Khmer Rouge Commander and the grave of Pol Pot in the hills above the small and now friendly town. !

Day 1 Drive to Anlong Veng; visit Tamoks house and a  half hour hill walk to to Pol Pots grave. Where we can see sunset views of the Dang Rek Mountains.

Day 2 Drive to Preah Vihear village for lunch and either a steep walk (2hrs) or 30min drive in 4WD pickup  to Preah Vihear mountain. We can enjoy the views of the temple in the evening light and have a picnic as we watch the sun go down..

Day 3 Sunrise at P Vihear and walk across the Thai border. There is a viewpoint and a walkway down the sheer cliffs to see Buddha figures.  We take a 4WD pickup  for   the return to the valley. We return  via Anlong Veng, where we have a stop for lunch, to Siem Reap where we arrive in the early evening.

*Cost $425  each depends on options: Min No 2 persons on tour

At the north of Tonle Sap lake, this is a fabulous place for seeing wildlife and birds in the dry season December - March.

The visitor can also get an experience of the fascinating life of the floating villages as well, by staying overnight in a floating lodge.

This allows a dawn start on a Government run boat which has books to aid identification of the thousands of water birds to be found here.

Day 1 Afternoon boat to Chong Khneas floating village; visiting the Gecko Environment centre on the way. We continue across the great Tonle Sap Lake to Prek Toal.

Day 2 Pre-dawn start to see the bird life at its best. Early in the season we can take a boat right into the heart of the mangroves  to a tree top hide.  We can  see the thousands of storks and other birds nesting in the trees. As  the water levels drop during the season; we see the birds fishing on the lake in vast numbers. It is one of the wonders of South East Asia.

We return to Siem reap in the afternoon.

NOTE: The bird sanctuary has upgraded facilities to include new boats and a floating guest house with much improved en suite rooms. As a consequence there has been an increase in cost since the 2004/05 season.
